This morning in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil, the cute little rodent we all have come to rely on for predicting winter weather, let us know that the frigid frost is not going away soon.

Despite the fact that it was a spring-like 61 degrees in New York City yesterday, the groundhog saw his shadow which means 6 more weeks of winter. Many east coasters say, if that means another 6 weeks of temperatures in the 40s and no snow, bring it.

Winter hasn’t so much felt like winter, but that could all change according to Phil the pint-sized predictor of weather.

Puzzles never seem to go out of style. And while the kinds of puzzles we do have evolved over time to include electronic puzzles, the old-fashioned jigsaw puzzle still holds strong. There are puzzles in puzzles, there are crossword puzzles, there are online puzzles and you can even create your own puzzle.

Puzzles are lots of fun for all ages. Designating a dining room or family room table to puzzle time is a great way to bring families together. A puzzle is something everyone can work on together while watching tv, listening to music or just catching up.

What better excuse do you need to eat this gooey nutty spread all day long if you want to. None, I say!

So perhaps you’d like to start the day with peanut butter smoothie made with maybe some almond milk, a shake of cinnamon and a ripe banana.

For lunch why not make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with grape jelly and eat it old school like you did back in the elementary lunch cafeteria complete with chocolate milk out of a box or add a handful of roasted peanuts to your tossed salad for an extra kick of protein.

Need an afternoon pick-me-up? Reese’s peanut butter cups will do just fine.

For dinner…why not show off your nutty culinary skills by whipping up a peanut-garlic stir-fry with fresh chopped broccoli, carrots, peppers and your choice of tofu, chicken or beef.

Of course any true peanut butter lover will tell you to just eat it out of the jar!

Hope is dancing with Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Hope’s dancing has not gone exactly smoothly. She has ended up in jeopardy a couple of times. Yet this soccer star manages to stay in the game.

As he pleaded with me and some other friends to vote for her, he said come on, “A vote for Hope is a vote for Hope.” A cheezy phrase, yes. But then again, lust will make you say funny things. He then double dog dared me to make a shirt. And who am I to turn down a shirt-making challenge.

The Witch Said No Because She Had a Smelly Toe, Kindle Book

Last week was the launch of my first Kindle book for kids, The Witch Said No Because She Had a Smelly Toe.

Just in time for Halloween, this rhyming Halloween tale about a girl who likes to make people smell her feet arrives just in time for some stinky trick or treat fun.

“There was once a little girl who liked to go out trick-or-treat.

She had a trick for getting candy. She made people smell her feet.

Every Halloween her scheme went off without a hitch.

Until the year her victim was a nasty wicked witch.”

Who doesn’t remember the old Halloween saying, “Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet! Give me something Good to Eat.” And whether you used it yourself to get candy or not, the thought of making somebody smell your feet gave you a chuckle.

The inspiration for this Halloween book came long ago – grade school in fact. Although I don’t remember much, I remember the assignment was to write a story and we were paired with another student to complete it. I couldn’t say what we wrote, who I wrote it with or how the story went, but I have never forgotten laughing ourselves silly when we came up with the title, “The Witch Said No Because She Had a Smelly Toe.”

The phrase,”The Witch Said No Because She Had a Smelly Toe” has been burned in my brain forever since, and was the fuel that fired this new Halloween story for boys and girls.
