Space Shuttle Lands in NYC
So today the space shuttle was set to land in New York City – it’s final destination where it will reside permanently at the Intrepid Museum on Manhattan’s west side.
But before settling in for it’s New York City stay, this little shuttle that could took a few victory laps around the sky. It first flew past my window and I grabbed for my camera. I had a friend who I knew was perched near JFK to take photos, but I did not expect the photo op that came my way. I managed to get this one decent shot -
I didnt know that it would not be my only chance for photographing this bird in flight – as not 10 minutes later it was flying back toward me in the opposite direction. LOL.
If you were lucky enough to work or live or be on the west side of the city you no doubt also got a view of the space shuttle piggy-backing on top of a jet.
But if you missed it – you can always visit the Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum at the pier where this aviation icon will be on permanent display for all to see starting in June.

Earth Day Tips
Happy Earth day to all and to the planet. Today is a wonderful day to begin new habits towards helping to reduce your carbon footprint and towards helping the earth and its inhabitants.
Here are some simple, easy earth day tips each of us can do. Remember no contribution is too small when it comes to the long haul we have to repair the earth.
1. Air dry your hair – leave the blowdryer in the closet.
2. Flush less
3. Carry totes with you for groceries and other purchases.
4. Stop using plastic water bottles and start using reusable containers.
5. Eat a more plant-based diet.
6. Open the shades and let the natural light in.
7. Take shorter showers.
8. Double check that piece of paper you’re throwing out…it might still have room for a grocery list rather than using a new piece.
9. Go paperless and opt-in to not receive paper bills in the mail.
10. Turn off computers, tvs and light switches when not in use.
11. Supersize it – buy bigger containers of products. A gallon of water uses less plastic then individual smaller bottles equalling that amount.
12. Walk to work, the store or other destinations when you can leave the car at home.
13. Buy hybrid
14. Eat local
15. Carpool
16. Plant a tree
17. Plant a garden
18. Read a book instead of watching TV
19. Use cloth napkins instead of paper
20. Drink less soda – reducing the use of cans and bottles.

Children’s Book Day – April 2
Today is April 2 – it is the birthdate of Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen and also marks the holiday, Children’s Book Day.
Getting kids to discover the joys of reading and the magic of books is what this day is all about all around the world. So gather your kids and grab some books and snuggle in for some quality book time.
Today there are so many ways to get children excited about reading, from watching read aloud books on youtube, to an old-fashioned trip to the library, to even planning a craft day where they write and draw their own books.
Whether it’s a rhyming book, a science book, an art book, a book about issues they may have in scchool – like bullying, a puzzle book, a counting book or a riddle book, getting books in the hands of boys and girls is an important step to getting them on the fun road to reading for life.
Hans Christian Andersen wrote The Ugly Duckling, The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Little Mermaid, The Snow Queen and a host of other fairy tales – reading those with your kids is a terrific day to commemorate this fun reading holiday.
